Today I’m sharing my favorite Christmas bedding ideas and how to style a festive bedroom in just eight easy steps. If you loved our plaid Christmas bedroom makeover, you can easily recreate that same cozy, layered look with a few smart updates—think texture, warmth, and a simple color plan that feels pulled together.

Step-by-Step Decorating a Bedroom for Christmas Using Holiday Bedding
Keep it simple. Start by picking a color palette, then layer soft textures, add a warm glow with lights, and anchor the whole look with one bold statement pattern.
Step 1: Paint the Room a Light and Neutral White Color
I wanted a neutral backdrop so I painted the walls navajo white.

You do not have to repaint, but a lighter wall lets your Christmas bedding and decor pop without visual clutter.
Step 2: Layer Cozy Christmas Bedding for Instant Holiday Charm
Shop your house first!
Keep your white base bedding and add a few high-impact pieces. I used a red velvet throw and a plaid quilt set.

I tend to shop HomeGoods and Target, especially during after season sales but if you are shopping “prime time” just before Christmas, you can’t go wrong with HomeGoods, TJMaxx and Marshalls.
Step 3: Mix Plaids, Furs, and Knits for a Warm Winter Look
Now the fun part, making the bed!

Layer it up for that hotel feel at home!
Here are the steps using Christmas bedding:
- Add a neutral bed skirt to visually ground the bed.
- Make the bed with crisp white sheets. Cotton percale or flannel both work.
- Layer a red velvet or knit blanket. No red on hand? Try gray, navy, or tan.
- Add a white duvet for loft and a clean base.
- Layer a festive plaid quilt or comforter as the wow moment.
- Finish with Christmas shams and a couple of throw pillows.
- Drape a cozy throw at the foot of the bed for texture.

Finish with Simple Accents That Keep the Room Festive but Calm
Your bedding is the star of the show. Once you get the bed made just the way you want it, add a few simple layers around the room to tie the whole space together.

Greenery
Use what you have. Clip greens, holly, and pine cones from your yard and make quick garland with floral wire. Free. Pretty. Done.
String Lights
Drape lights on the headboard, frame a mirror, or run a strand along the curtain rod. Soft glow changes the whole mood.
Christmas Wall Art
A simple sign over the bed and a pair of wreaths create a clean focal point. Keep frames neutral so your bedding pattern leads.

Christmas Tree
Add a small tree in the corner or a tabletop tree on a dresser. Keep ornaments simple to match your bedding colors.
Quick Checklist
- Declutter surfaces and remove extra furniture.
- Pick a palette. Red and white. Green and cream. Navy and gold.
- Start with white sheets and duvet.
- Add one statement pattern. Plaid or reindeer.
- Mix textures. Velvet, knit, faux fur.
- Add lights and a little greenery.
- Finish with two to three pillows and a throw.

Common Questions
What fabrics feel coziest for winter?
Flannel for warmth, cotton percale for crisp and cool, velvet or sherpa for texture. Mix one warm, one crisp, and one textured for balance.
How many pillows are too many?
Keep it real. Two sleeping pillows, two shams, and one small accent is plenty. You want pretty and practical.

I would love to be able to decorate my bedroom for Christmas! My daughter would love to decorate her bedroom too, so I’m going to check out your teen girl bedroom post (although she just turned 20, close enough!).
Where did you buy the plaid quilt? What is the brand? Thank you!
