Increase Property Value With The Right Exterior Door

Choosing the right exterior door can increase property value. A door is the focal point of any home or building, so investing money in the door style and color pays off when you sell your home. Make sure to get it right the first time!
We decided to enclose our pool pump and add a storage shed for outdoor furniture. What was supposed to be a small project, turned into a much larger scaled “shed” than we anticipated.
How To Choose An Exterior Door
When selecting an exterior door, consider factors such as material, style, weather resistance, and insulation.
An outdoor door should be a balance between aesthetics and durability, so choose one that is both attractive and provides protection from the elements.
Additionally, it is important to make sure the size of the door is appropriate for the opening and it has all necessary hardware and hinges pre-installed.
We recently partnered with Horner Millwork here in Massachusetts who happens to be one of the leading millwork companies in New England. They are a distributor and a custom manufacturer of windows, doors, kitchens and stairs to the residential and commercial markets and you guys, they are AMAZING people.
They delivered the doors wrapped in a wood frame and protected with cardboard. The door above is a Masonite Full Lite Vista Grande Double Door Unit in a Cherry Stain.
If you have been following along, you know that we purchased our home earlier this year and spent 95% of our time, effort and money landscaping and creating a backyard .
Curb appeal isn’t just about the front of the house. Curb appeal also takes place in the backyard. We are always thinking resale with any property we own. Our latest outdoor DIY project entailed a pool house shed to protect the pool filter and pumps from the outdoors.
For those of you who know my dad, you know that when he says he is starting a small project, it never ends small. It ends big. What started as a small 4×6 building to cover the pool filter became a larger scaled building that has a great storage space for the outdoor furniture during the winter months.
We decided to take a little extra time with the pool house to mimic the existing house. How did we do this? We added a hip roof (like our house has) and we coordinated the two exterior doors to resemble a similar style to the front door.
I love the Fir Textured Door and how it looks like real wood!
The pool house is one of the first things you see as you drive up to our garage area so we wanted to make sure that the pool house looked as good as it could! Taking a little extra time to carefully coordinate with the existing structures on your property can really boost your property value if you do it right.
I know first hand because any house that we have ever owned, it’s often times the little details that it boils down to when choosing a house. When you are selling your house, you want your house to have all the tiny details so that it stands out in a crowd. Make sense?
After:
Masonite Full Lite Vista Grande Double Door Unit
The Masonite Full Lite Vista Grande Double Door Unit is a classic design with an elegant look and allows lots of natural light. It has a sturdy frame made from wood grain fiberglass for durability and longevity.
I love the cherry stain color and the wood grain texture. These doors are amazing!
We worked with Horner Millwork to pick a color that would coordinate with the front door of our house as well as the overall exterior look of our house.
Masonite Heritage 3-Panel Craftsman Fir Textured Double Door
The second door that is the entrance to the pump is an outward swing door and we decided to go with a solid door but wanted to create custom look so we went with the Craftsman Fir Textured Double Door Unit.
Our house resembles a European style so we wanted a rich warm door tone to coordinate with the house.
The outward swing allows us to access the pump and filter from the outside and makes for easy access.
After:
A beauty right?
The wood grain texture creates architectural interest and is very appealing to the eye. Remember, you do not always have to get a plain basic door! You can customize the texture and color.
Masonite offers a variety of affordable exterior doors that come in all different styles. Ultimately, we chose the Masonite Heritage 3-Panel Craftsman Fir Textured Double Door Unit, finished with a Cherry stain with the Fortress Coatings System , as well as a coordinating Full Lite Vista Grande Double Door Unit.
I am not sure if Mother Nature is going to cooperate and allow us to get the pool house sided this year but if not, we will be back in the Spring to share the full pool house reveal.

Next Spring we will paint the columns and stairs and once the siding is put on, we will probably add some cute window boxes.
You can see the hip roof design on the house and I think tying in the pool house roof creates a cohesive look.

You have such an amazing yard and your pool house project does tie in nicely with your house.
Thank you Sue!!
It does look great! I like that the roof matches your house. I like the cherry wood color too! Our dining set is that color. I also like the one picture you took where the fall trees are reflected in the windows of the door.
Thank you Brenda!!
