Looking for interior door color ideas that blend style and function? The Masonite interior doors at the Kenwood Modern Farmhouse prove that good design starts (and ends) with the right doors.
If you missed the post about the new construction modern farmhouse Jim is wrapping up, be sure to click through this post, the journey of the Kenwood and family.

Fun fact before we get started, Jim built this entire beauty with insulated concrete forms (ICFs), making it not just a looker but a total fortress—crazy energy-efficient, durable, and designed to stand the test of time!
Masonite Interior Doors Delivery: Cold-Weather Champions
It was zero degrees and the driveway was basically an ice rink for cars when Horner Millwork showed up to deliver these solid core beauties.
The fact that the driver was able to maneuver this truck on so much ice is nothing short of amazing!
Wrapped like gifts and handled with care, each door was prepped for its new home. (BTW… if you’re curious who the lucky new homeowners are, meet Meg and her family!)
From the moment she saw it, Meg knew this home was meant to be—and, funny enough, Jim said he knew they’d be buying it the second he met her, with or without her husband’s approval. 😂
We love partnering with Horner Millwork here in Massachusetts. They always deliver top-notch customer service and have the best door selections at every price point (seriously, they’re our go-to every time 😉).
Interior Door Styles: Why We Chose Masonite Logan
We opted for solid core, two-panel Shaker doors from the Masonite Logan collection, perfect for anyone eyeing an interior door makeover. Here’s what sealed the deal:
- Solid core design for durability and noise control.
- Pre-hung frames for smoother installation.
- Classic shaker lines that are timeless and versatile.
How to Install Interior Doors: Quick Overview
Here’s the detailed rundown for anyone planning a DIY interior door makeover:
Check the rough opening for correct size, level, and squareness; inspect and prepare the door unit.
Position the pre-hung door into the rough opening, centering it properly.
Shim and secure the hinge side, ensuring it’s straight and plumb before nailing or screwing into place.
Shim and secure the latch side, adjusting for an even reveal, then fasten with nails or screws.
Re-check alignment, make final adjustments, and fully secure the frame into the studs.
Trim shims, fill holes, apply caulk, spray foam insulation, finish the door and frame, and install hardware.

White Interior Doors + Bold Hardware: A Classic Combo
We painted the interior doors, craftsman-style trim, and walls all in Benjamin Moore’s White Dove (see my paint review of this amazing color here), a soft interior paint color that creates a clean, cohesive look.
This seamless palette keeps things simple yet stylish, tying together every room effortlessly.
When I took these photos, the handrails and stair treads hadn’t been stained yet—but stay tuned! Once Meg and her family are settled in, she’s kindly offered to let me snap some “after” shots of this gorgeous staircase. 🫶
While dark interior doors are definitely having a moment in 2025 (hello, moody and dramatic), Meg and her family wanted a tried-and-true look featuring a neutral, subtle white with a smidge of warmth. The winner, White Dove!
The walls, trim and doors were all painted white dove with satin finish on the doors and trim.
Related: See these exact doors in our waterfront home in RI, painted cracked pepper! Yes, that is black!😉
BTW, color-drenching like this is totally on trend right now (check out any design blog), and it makes spaces feel bigger and more put-together without trying too hard.
The crisp craftsman-style trim really ties it all together with clean, architectural lines that add subtle character.
The matte black hardware brings just the right amount of contrast. Simple, classic, and timeless.
Front Door Ideas: French Door With Glass Panels
Last summer (because let’s be real….building a house takes time), Meg and I took a field trip to Horner Millwork in Somerset Ma (they also have a location in Southborough, MA) to hand-select a front door and get an education from the amazing Marty on all the styles, features, and benefits.
This was such a fun day (with two stops at Dunkin’—her daughter was thrilled 🤩), and I remember how excited Meg was to pick out her front door.
The choices can definitely feel overwhelming, so having a clear idea of your style, function needs, and budget is key to keeping it stress-free.
Ultimately, the ODL smooth flush front entry door below was the winner featuring a two-panel, shaker french style door with partial glass.
Exactly the kind of front door idea that brings both style and practicality!
We customized the exterior with Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter, darkened by 30% for a little extra depth and richness.
The result?
A timeless, slightly moodier tone that stands out beautifully against the light siding and totally elevates the curb appeal (because yes, your front door deserves to make a statement).
Door Color Ideas That Work
Choosing one color—White Dove—for the interior walls, doors, and trim created a sleek, unified look that feels both fresh and classic.
Whether you’re inspired by Revere Pewter or other neutral tones, a cohesive palette makes the whole home feel intentional and polished.
We especially love how the craftsman-style trim frames each doorway beautifully, giving the entire interior a polished, custom-finished look.
This pocket style door was the perfect solution for the master bathroom.
Thinking about saving space?
A gorgeous solid-core pocket door is the perfect solution when you don’t want to sacrifice wall real estate. 😉
Wrapping Up: Interior Door Makeover Success
The Kenwood build is nearly complete, and these painted doors and trim from Horner Millwork continue to prove that thoughtful design details make all the difference.
Whether you’re planning an interior door upgrade or just browsing door color ideas for your next project, trust us—doors aren’t just functional, they’re a major part of the look and feel of your home.
AND…. if you’re on the hunt for doors yourself, definitely check Horner Millwork out! Pretty sure the last thing their crew wanted was to pose with me in the freezing cold that day—but they did it anyway (total champs 😉).
Keep your eyes peeled—a full interior tour is coming soon!
Just wait until you see the kitchen and pantry, complete with the cutest blue bird wallpaper (a little dream of Meg’s come true) and an antique door that Jim cleverly retrofitted as a pocket door for the pantry.
