Today I’m comparing greek villa vs white dove and why I love both of these colors for different reasons. If you are looking for a fresh neutral white interior paint color that is not stark white, then greek villa or white dove may be for you!

In the past 2 months, we have renovated two fixer uppers and you guessed it, we used greek villa in one home and white dove in the other.

Both white paint colors each have their own characteristics and while very similar, they both offer a different look and feel.

Greek Villa is more creamy than White Dove, while White Dove is a little brighter

Greek Villa

Let’s start with the ranch fixer upper we renovated last year and later sold to a young couple with two really cute (and big!) pups.

The old ranch was dated and boxy but had really amazing charm!

We opted to gutt the entire inside but keep the existing charm by accentuating the arches in the home.

We wanted the interior to feel open and airy but still warm and cozy.

After trying several neutral white paint colors with a warm undertone, Sherwin Williams Greek Villa was hands down the winner.

Greek Villa has a slight warm undertone and is creamier than White Dove.

One of the best features of Greek Villa is it exudes warmth but does not look yellow.

White Dove

Now let’s take a look at the Cape Cod House fixer upper and why Benjamin Moore White Dove was the best interior paint choice.

This small cape house was also dated and boxy in desperate need of a full makeover.

After several days of demolition, we had a clean slate to start with.

I love how white dove is the perfect white paint color for a home with lower ceilings

In order to brighten up the home and give the appearance of a larger space, we picked Benjamin Moore White Dove to add a clean fresh look while keeping it inviting.

Similar to Greek Villa, White Dove has a slightly warm undertone but is brighter (not as warm) than Greek Villa.

The picture below is a great example of how a slightly warm white paint color can look darker (and warmer) in artificial light.

Can you imagine if we had used a warmer toned white (like Greek Villa), in this home?

The walls would have looked “yellowish” in artificial light and we were trying to avoid that.

That is one of the reasons why, we went with white dove for this home.

SW White Dove is one of the truest whites but not stark white (like Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace) and it’s the perfect interior color if you are looking to brighten up a space that doesn’t have a lot of natural light or an older home with a lower ceiling height.

Comparing Greek Villa and White Dove

Keep in mind, paint colors will look different in every single home.

What looks slightly warm in my home, may look different in your home simply because of the lighting.

I highly recommend painting 2×2 square swatch samples in a couple different spots in your home and see how you like the color over the span of 24 hours.

This allows you to see the color during natural and artificial lighting scenarios throughout the day.

When comparing these two homes, you will notice that the ranch house, once renovated, had higher ceilings and several more windows than the cape house.

The ranch house also had large arch openings between rooms making it feel larger.

The ranch home while the same square footage on the first floor as the cape house, seemed bigger so the space warranted a warmer toned paint (Greek Villa) white to keep it cozy and inviting.

The cape house once renovated was not as open as the ranch interior, had a lower ceiling height and less windows than the ranch.

The cape needed a boost of brightness but we wanted to keep some of the older style charm and White Dove was the perfect mix of a bright white with a hint of warmth.

If you are confused about how a “white paint” can look a little warm but not stark white, check out my paint review on Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace.

Chantilly Lace is a cool toned white and will appear to be stark white in many settings.

You will clearly see the difference between warm and cool toned white paint.

All in all, both Greek Villa and White Dove are two of my favorite white paint colors and both equally look amazing when used in the right setting.

If you are unsure which white paint color to choose, buy a sample size of each color and paint swatch samples around your home.

I am curious, which color do you prefer?
