Our kidney shaped salt-water pool is proving to be the favorite spot of our home this summer. If you have been following our pool series that started last month with Hayward Pools, you know that we recently upgraded our pool pump system to a Hayward VS Omni Variable Speed Pump with Smart Control and last week, we installed the Hayward AquaRite® salt chlorination system.
Hayward Industries Inc. is a leading global manufacturer of both residential and commercial pool and spa equipment, as well as industrial flow control products, which are built on safety and reliability and we are so excited to be partnering with them for our Summer Pool Series.
If you have a pool or are thinking about getting a pool, you are going to love this post!
Salt Water Pool Benefits
We have always had a chlorine pool, even when I was a kid so I was a bit skeptical to change to salt water. I will admit, it’s amazing how soft the salt water feels on your skin! It’s like silk.
I couldn’t believe how good my skin felt after getting out of the salt water pool. I never thought I would be excited over anything pool related (see the swamp monster post from last year) but the salt has really made my skin feel amazing!
Converting from Chlorine to Salt Water Pool
Designed to be the most convenient alternative to conventional chlorine, the AquaRite offers a gentle pool sanitization process, eliminating harsh chlorine odors while creating velvety smooth water that feels incredible.
Salt Water Pool Maintenance
The salt-water pool maintenance is really simple. Instead of adding chlorine to your pool, you add bags of salt which essentially turns to natural chlorine, not the harsh stuff you buy from the store with all the added chemicals.
And you have the ability to adjust the chlorine output from 0 – 100% on the Hayward AquaRite® salt chlorination system control panel.
Kidney Shaped Salt Water Pool
After having a chlorine pool my entire life, I did some more research on what are really the benefits of having a salt-water pool. There are a TON of articles (here and here, for a sampling) and research that explains the pros of this kind of pool system.
Hayward even did a blog post to educate people about these benefits too.
Bonus – since you are using less salt, it saves you the big bucks in the long run too!
The amount of time and money that we have saved by converting to a salt water system is unbelievable. The system has been installed for over a month now and it’s truly amazing the cost savings and less maintenance involved.
In the past, we were constantly adding chemicals and with the older system, our pump would run 12 hours. Now that we have installed the Hayward Pool Pump VS Omni Hub system, the pump only runs 8 hours a day vs. 12 hours a day which saves money on our electrical bill.
The Hayward AquaRite® salt chlorination system along with the new pump keeps the pool so clean and literally the maintenance has been cut in half.
I am not sure if you are aware of the significant wellness benefits of a saltwater pool (I was not) but they are amazing.
My skin feels so much smoother and my hands are not “prune like” after I swim. Swimming through saltwater has been shown to possibly reduce inflammation making it a healthier alternative to a traditional chlorine pool system.
We keep our salt reading between 3000 – 3200.

The entire system is in a weatherproof enclosure to protect the connections and is ETL safety certified. The installation of the salt cartridge and entire system took under an hour and went very smoothly. Our Kidney Shaped Salt Water Pool is so efficient now!
I highly recommend that you check out the Hayward AquaRite® salt chlorination system if you are considering installing a pool or simply converting from a traditional chlorine system. Next month I will be sharing the all new Hayward AquaVac 6 Series Robotic Pool Cleaner which is the coolest robot cleaner ever!
