Are you ready for another kitchen renovation post? A few days ago, I shared our new Diamond Line cabinets from MasterBrand being delivered and my grumpy gramp watching them get stacked inside the garage where his car is usually parked (check out that post, you will see what I mean). You can see that post here.  Today, it’s “rip out the cabinets” day and I will admit, once we started ripping them out, I got a little nervous.

Like, omg what did I get myself (us) into…..

As you know, we do most of our home renovations ourselves but sometimes, you need to call in some additional help. Especially when you need muscles.

We are attempting to save the 60 year old metal hood as it’s industrial looking and it’s the one thing in this old kitchen that we like.

Do you know how much industrial hoods cost these days?

Holy smokes, I was shocked when I started pricing them out.  I’ll rehab and spray paint this one thank you very much.  A small little issue occurred once we ripped off the old crown molding. The old hood vent ran on top of the old 60+ year old cabinets and our new cabinets are taller so not sure what we will do about. Once you start ripping out old cabinets and walls, you never know what you might find behind them.

Cutting around the existing water pipes posed a challenge but Fitzy’s tips and tricks saved the day. I told Fitzy I was going to do a blog post called, “Fitzy’s tips and tricks” and his response was, “what’s a blog post?”

We got most of it cleaned out in a couple days. One thing you need for sure when demolishing a kitchen, a very large dumpster. Plan on having it parked in your driveway for weeks. I was shocked at the amount of “stuff” that was taken out of this kitchen.
