How We Saved $500 Per Pendant Light in Our Modern Coastal Kitchen

When designing our new construction home in Rhode Island, I fell in love with the Becki Owens Ivy Pendant light. Its elegant chain detail and glass jar style perfectly matched the modern coastal vibe I wanted in our kitchen.
BUT at $712-$890 per light for the large size pendant, it was way out of our budget, especially since we were building this house ourselves and had to carefully watch our expenses.
Determined to get the look for less, I scoured the internet for budget-friendly alternatives.
And guess what?
I found the perfect dupe on Wayfair for over $500 less per light! Here’s the exact light we used.
The price was right, the clear glass jar theme was a close match, and it still gave the modern transitional feel I wanted for the space.
A Look Inside Our Modern Coastal Kitchen
If you haven’t seen the full tour of our Rhode Island waterfront home, you can check it out here.
Our kitchen reflects a modern coastal style with a hint of transitional elements, from the soft blue island to the light wood floors and these stunning pendant lights that now hang over the island.
We DIY-ed much of the home, including the pendant installation, thanks to Jim, who handled all the hands-on work.
These Wayfair pendants have been a huge hit ….we’ve received so many compliments!
So you tell me….how did I do?
Here is the Beckie Owens Ivy pendant vs. the Wayfair pendant.

While I still love the Beckie Owens light and the unique chain and bulb connection it offers, I don’t feel like I sacrificed style by going with the more affordable option.
Get the Look for Less: My Secret Shopping Tips
One thing I’ve learned from years of home design projects is that you don’t need an endless budget to achieve a high-end look.
Counter stools | Stainless steel hood | Living room chair | Island pendant | Wall art | Coffee table | Kitchen sink flush mount
It just takes a little patience and creativity.
Here are my go-to tips for finding designer-inspired decor on a budget:
1. Start With an Inspiration Photo
Whether it’s a designer’s Instagram feed, Pinterest, or a magazine, find a photo of the exact look you want. This gives you a clear vision to work toward.
2. Search Affordable Retailers
Sites like Wayfair, Amazon, and Walmart often carry similar styles for a fraction of the cost. Don’t be afraid to dig through multiple listings to find the right one!
3. Use Amazon’s Secret Search Hack
Here’s my favorite trick: copy the brand and product name from a high-end retailer (like Pottery Barn or West Elm) and paste it into Amazon’s search bar with the words “dupe” or “similar look.” You’ll be amazed at what pops up!
4. Be Patient
Sourcing budget-friendly alternatives may take longer, but the savings are worth it. Plus, the hunt for the perfect piece can be so satisfying!
