Life has a funny way of working out, a full circle moment indeed! After getting our home top to bottom, just the way we wanted and a home that has taken us through the last 8 years of life, we are selling our multigenerational home and building a brand new one right down the street.
What started eight years ago in 2018 with a completely different story is now wrapping up with a totally new one. If you have been following us for a while, you know that the first 8 years of my multigenerational living journey started at my childhood home that my parents owned, just a mile up the street, which included not only my family and my parents, but my grandparents too! Four generations under one roof. 😉

When I bought this home with my parents and my ex-husband, I had no idea what was coming. 3 months prior to closing on this house, my grandmother passed away. Six months after closing on this home, my world fell apart and shortly after that, my grandfather died. Let’s just say, 2018 was rough!

And this house?
It became so much more than just walls and a roof.
It taught me lessons I never expected, about resiliency, patience with myself, and strength I never even knew I had! What once felt like the hardest thing I’d ever done turned into something I’m genuinely grateful for.
And let’s be real, living here has felt like being at a resort 24/7. 😉
So… We’re Selling Our Multigenerational Home
The time has come to pass our amazing modern mediterranean home along to a new family.

My son graduated last May, and that was always the milestone we set to decide what came next. Now we’re ready for a new chapter.

But before I get into all the feels about what’s next, let me tell you about this place because if you know someone looking for a turnkey home that is perfect for multigenerational families or simply a family that wants space for everyone (a spot ALL your kids friends will want to be at😉), this might just be exactly what they’ve been searching for.

What Makes This Multigenerational Home So Special
Let’s start with the basics: over 6 acres of beautiful land with ADU potential (grab my free 96 question checklist if you are thinking about one for yourself!), set way off the road in a completely private setting.

You can’t see the house from the street. In fact, if you are local, you probably had no idea it was ever here! Total privacy. Yet, very close to the school and center of town.

Close to everything but still feels super private. That’s the magic 😉.
The main house is 4,500+ square feet with an additional finished space in the lower level that adds even more living space. Two master suites, one on the first floor, one on the second – which is a game-changer for multigenerational living!

Parents downstairs, adult kids upstairs. Or vice versa. It works however your family needs it to work.

Multiple tv and living areas with a fully finished 3rd floor 600 square foot loft that we currently use as an office and additional living space. Space for everyone to have their own zone. Room to spread out. Room to come together.
And then there’s the outside!
The Pool House (AKA the Real MVP)
The full pool house is hands down one of the best features of this property. A few summers ago, Jim added a large addition that turned it into a one-of-a-kind entertaining hub.

It’s fully equipped with a TV living space, bar, kitchenette and so much more!

Whether you entertain or possibly convert to an ADU or leave it as is, it’s a perfect spot to watch TV, host friends, or just hang out by the pool without ever stepping foot in the main house.
The gunite pool sits on a large, expansive patio that’s perfect for hosting.

The birthdays and graduation parties, last day of school celebrations, dinners and gatherings have no doubt been extra special because you feel like you are nestled in a private resort full of luxury.
I won’t lie, I have had many moments in this house where I say to myself, I am really lucky to live here 😉.

The Barn, The Land, The Extras
Then there’s the expansive custom post-and-beam barn. Significant storage for yard supplies, tractors, toys whatever you’ve got. It’s the kind of barn that most dream of! Not only is is perfect for “stuff” it has major possibilities when it comes to an in-home studio, office, whatever your heart desires.

Now, let’s get to the blog series that so many of you loved a few years back, The chicken mansion!

I did not name it that, you all did! 😂.
My dad went a little overboard with this but he was itching to build something so he did just that. If you don’t have chickens, no worries, it can easily be converted to a garden shed. We have only had 3-5 chickens so it’s not like a real “coop,” they are my mom’s pets 😉.
About a dozen other little touches that make this property feel dialed in and the perfect spot for some lucky family.
Everything has a place. Everything has a purpose 😉.
So Why Are We Selling Our Multigenerational Home?
Some of you are probably thinking, “Jess, what is wrong with you? Why are you even moving? It sounds amazing.”

I get it. It is amazing and trust me, I have sooooo many emotions over this. Writing this post has taken months of stop and go journaling some because of tears (happy and sad), some because my mind would wander and get sidetracked remembering so many rollercoaster moments.

But here’s the thing: when we bought this multigenerational home back in 2018, we had a clear plan. Live here until my son graduated high school and then reevaluate.
It wasn’t a “maybe someday” thing. It was the plan from day one.
When I found myself separated and headed for divorce 6 months after purchasing it, the thought crossed my mind to just sell several times. Cut my losses. Move on. Would it have made life easier financially? Absolutely.
But after long talks with my mom, I decided to stick with the plan. Keep my son in the house we’d been planning on for all those months and ride it out.
The lessons were invaluable!
My son graduated last May. And just like that, we hit the milestone we’d been working toward for eight years. The goal we set back in 2018—the one that felt impossible during those hard first few years—actually happened. It’s mind boggling to me how fast time has gone by.

So now? It’s time.
It’s time for my parents to do all the fun things retired parents should do while they can. Travel. Spend winters in Florida. Bounce around. Live their best life without being tied to one place year-round.
And it’s time for us to build something new—a multigenerational home designed from scratch, for this next chapter, with a private wing for my parents, a private suite for my son, and space for me and Jimbo to start fresh 😉. A place of our own and a place to make new memories.
But here’s the other thing: this house isn’t just for multigenerational families.
Sure, it’s set up perfectly for that—two master suites, first and second floor laundry setups, multiple living areas, a layout that gives everyone their own space while still feeling connected. It works like clock work.

But it also works for large families who just need a lot of room. Multiple bedrooms. Multiple living areas so you’re not all crammed into one space. The pool and the land give kids room to actually be kids.
And it works for people who love to entertain. The pool house. The expansive patio. The barn. The land. The privacy. It’s the kind of property where you can host 50 people and it doesn’t feel crowded.

This house adapts. That’s what makes it super rare 😉.
But here’s the thing people don’t always realize: you’re not just buying a home. You’re buying a lifestyle that’s already built. The pool house. The barn. The gunite pool. The land. The privacy. The layout that actually works. We have created it all, soup to nuts. You just “move in and enjoy.” 😉
Creating this from scratch? It would take years and hundreds of thousands of dollars. And honestly? You couldn’t recreate this property in today’s market for what we’re selling it for. Not even close.
The Bottom Line
I’ll no doubt miss this place. It’s been a resort, a classroom, a safe space, and a dream home all rolled into one.

But I’m also really excited about what’s next……
If you know of anyone looking for a turnkey multigenerational home with two master suites, a pool house that could possibly double as an ADU, a gunite pool, a custom barn, and over six acres of private, beautiful land close to town—reach out to me on social or shoot me an email at jessica @ fourgenerationsoneroof (dot) com.
This home hits the market May 1. But I figured I’d give you all the heads-up first as many of you have been with me since the start of this crazy journey, I call my life 😉.
Ps. I put together a full multigenerational blueprint from everything I have learned over the years, RIGHT HERE, so be sure to check it. AND here is a picture of our new lot 😉

I’ve been following since the beginning and I know it’s been a wild ride. I wish you all the happiness as you move into the next chapter! I cannot believe that handsome boy of yours has graduated already. I wish him well in whatever he decides to do.
thank you ! 🙂 I appreciate that and yes, he does not make many blog appearances 😂 so many have been shocked at how grown up he is now. Definitely not that little guy pre middle school that was always on the blog 🫶
Out of curiosity, why are you selling before the new house is ready? Where will you all go in the meantime?
it will take a while to sell and this is the best time to list a house for sale. we have other living options we may consider 😉
