Today I am sharing my secret to painting two toned bedroom doors. Most of the trim and doors are stained in our house except two bedrooms. The previous owners had two daughters who were not a fan of dark stained trim so they painted their bedroom trim and interior part of the door white. After years of use, the white paint has started to chip and the doors needed to be touched up with white paint, especially the edges.
How do you paint a different color on each side?
I have been meaning to touch up the bedroom doors for months so when FrogTape® asked if I would like to try their FrogTape® brand painter’s tape that is treated with patented PaintBlock® Technology , I said absolutely!
Getting a clean crisp paint line between the brown stain part and white paint part of the door is not an easy task so that’s where the Frogtape comes in handy.
How to get clean lines with painters tape
FrogTape® brand painter’s tapes are treated with patented PaintBlock® Technology, a super-absorbent polymer that reacts with the water in latex paint and instantly gels to form a micro-barrier that seals the edges of the tape, preventing paint bleed and the need for touch-ups.
The results are crisp, clean paint lines the first time.
Depending on what type of painting project you are doing, FrogTape® Delicate Surface Painting Tape is best for use on finished wood, fresh paint (dry to the touch), wallpaper, veneer, laminate, vinyl and drywall (primed only).
How to paint an interior door
First, I cleaned the door with a damp cloth to remove any loose dirt or scuff marks.
Next, I taped the Frogtape along the edge of the door covering the stained side of the door.
Painting Tip: Be sure to run your hand along the edge of the tape to ensure it’s completely flat against the door to prevent any paint from bleeding through.
I used a 4″ smooth roller brush to apply the white paint.
One very important feature to note is FrogTape is the only painting tape treated with patented PaintBlock® Technology.
PaintBlock® reacts with the water in latex paint and instantly gels to form a barrier against paint bleed giving you the sharpest paint lines possible.
I applied two coats of white paint allowing sufficient time in between to dry. Once the second coat was dry, I gently removed the Frogtape.
My secret to painting two toned bedroom doors is to take your time at the start of the project and apply the Frogtape. It may seem tedious at first but trust me, it’s so much faster than painting a straight line freehand and the chance of getting a clean crisp paint line freehand, is very slim!
The door has a few dings and dents from wear and tear but overall, the door looks 99% better with a fresh coat of white paint and the Frogtape worked perfectly providing a clean crisp paint line. This project took a little over 2 hours and 95% of it was drying time in between paint coats.
If your interior or exterior doors need a quick facelift, this is a DIY paint project that anyone can do with minimal time involved. Frogtape also works perfectly for painting baseboards, window trim or any painting project that requires clean paint lines.
