Elegant Halloween ideas that feel a little spooky without going full haunted house. That’s our vibe. We joined the 20 Ways to Decorate for Halloween Tour with Randi Garrett Design, which gave us the perfect excuse to dress things up.

Design Tip: Lean into black-and-white textiles, one statement wreath, a few faux florals, and tiny pumpkins. Mix textures (gauze, netting, glass) and add candles for glow. Elegant, not eerie.

Our Family Room

Family room with orange throw, black-and-white pillows, and subtle Halloween accents

We kept the orange pillows and throw from our recent Fall Home Tour. Then layered in black-and-white pillows from Target and Pottery Barn.

Graphic Halloween pillows = instant “festive” without a bin explosion.

The hero up front? A hanging black wreath from Pier One. It ties the textiles together and adds that elevated-spooky moment.

For florals, we scooped up faux black hydrangeas and roses from Michaels. A glass cloche + candy dishes from HomeGoods finish the vignette. Cute, a little moody, and zero fuss.

Layer in mini pumpkins and candlesticks (HomeGoods + Target dollar bin) wherever you need a little pop. Done.

Our Halloween Mantel

I lettered the “Happy Halloween” in PicMonkey for a little wink. The skeletons are from HomeGoods and honestly make the whole scene.

Black netting, gauze, and a few taper candles = instant drama. Simple. Stylish. A touch spooky.

The branch stems (HomeGoods) are wrapped in cotton fabric. Not sure they were meant for Halloween, but they add great texture and height—so they made the cut.

Our Halloween Simple Bathroom

A single black candle holder + black hand towel = subtle and grown-up. Easy to remove on November 1st.

Kids’ Cupcakes

For playdates (or honestly, adults), set up a tiny treat buffet. The kids’ eyes get huge. Mine too.

Elegant Halloween doesn’t mean boring. It just means fewer plastic spiders and more intentional textures, light, and contrast.

Commonly Asked Questions

How do I get an elegant look without buying all new decor? Stick to a black-and-white base you can reuse, then add 2–3 seasonal accents (wreath, gauze, mini pumpkins). Textures do the heavy lifting.

What’s a quick way to style the mantel? Work in thirds: (1) gauze/netting base, (2) tall element for height—branches or candlesticks, (3) one playful moment—like a posable skeleton.

Kid-friendly but not cluttered? Corral treats on one tray or tiered stand. When the party’s over, the whole thing lifts off the counter.
