We are all guilty of having secret love affairs. Some have them with cars, chocolate, coffee and yikes, even other people! Mine happens to be with coffee. My husband’s is peanut butter and well, the list goes on here in our home. My grandfather on the other hand has one with Marie Callender’s. Don’t laugh but when Marie Callender’s contacted us to see if we would like to help spread the word on their Comforts From Home program, I couldn’t resist. My grandfather is obsessed with Marie Callender’s dinners and desserts. He does all the grocery shopping and I carry in all the bags in for him so I see first hand, just how much he loves their food. Marie Callender’s meals are homemade and offer a variety of dinner and dessert selections. They are perfect for my grandfather (and grandmother) because many times he is starving and needs a quick meal. They are made with high quality ingredients and are easy to make. Pop in the microwave and it’s done. My son loves the turkey pot pie. When I asked my grandfather which one was his favorite, he said, “I love them all!”
I snapped this picture of my grandparents during dinner this past weekend. Yes, he is sticking his finger in her ear. My grandfather, in his younger years, was a medic in the army and was thrilled when I told him that his favorite food was donating to support the brave men and women of the U.S. Military. That was the icing on the cake for him. USO2GO is a USO program that brings kits filled with electronics, sports gear, books, games and more to troops stationed in remote locations around the world. Many of you have probably heard of Thunderclap, but for those who haven’t, it is a tool that helps promote wider reach of messages by broadcasting them at the same time through the social media channels of friends – or in this case, a large group of consumers promoting the same good cause. In the coming weeks, the Marie team will start reaching out to consumers through the brand’s Facebook page to get them to sign up to be part of the Thunderclap which will launch on Sunday, 11/30 if we meet our supporter goal. Marie Callender’s Comforts From Home Project makes it easy to support the brave men and women of the U.S. military. Simply enter the eight-digit code found on specially marked packages of Marie Callender’s dinners and desserts online at Comforts From Home, and they will send a donation to USO2GO. Each code entered equals a $0.50 donation to the USO2GO program.
We would love for you to visit Comforts From Home site to learn more about how you can join Marie Callender’s in helping to bring a little bit of home sweet home to our U.S. service men and women overseas. You can sign up to support this effort RIGHT NOW by visiting Thunderclap and use this message to help spread the word on your own social media outlets, “Help the USO & Marie Callender’s Meals bring the #ComfortsFromHome to troops overseas. Hey I love Marie Callender’s, too, but they are NOT “homemade”. They’re machine made in a factory, packaged, and distributed. There are no loving hands rolling out individual pie crusts and mixing ingredients.
I love this post Jess! And I love Marie Callenders! Kudos to them for helping out our troops in any little way!
