Just stopping in really quick to share How To Disguise Ugly AC Units or Garbage Barrels with a Lattice Privacy Screen. A few years back my dad and I spent a weekend making a lattice privacy screen to disguise our AC units off of our back patio. If you have been following our blog for a while, that post was one of our most popular posts and still is, 3 years later. It seems like this is the time of year everyone is starting to think about the warm weather, DIY projects and ways to add curb appeal to their home.
We have 3 AC units in our new yard that are currently disguised by shrubs. Shrubs are a great way to hide things like AC units or garbage barrels but shrubs can be pricey and also can take years to mature where they would be big enough to hide anything. Our landscape is one of the things that attracted me to our new house as it’s mature and fully grown.
At our previous home, the AC units were right on our back patio and stuck out like a sore thumb.
It took my dad and I one weekend to create a lattice privacy screen. The lattice privacy screen ended up being a pretty backdrop for the patio furniture. My mom also ended up using the screen as a spot to hang her flowers too.

Do you have a garbage barrel dilemma? Barrels that are ugly and unsightly?
Disguise Ugly AC Units or Garbage Barrels – Lattice Privacy Screen
Check out our DIY lattice privacy screen – hide a trash can post which is basically a smaller version of the lattice privacy screen above with a platform for the barrel to sit on.
RELATED: our RV and Camping Adventures
We made ours to hide our trash can at our season campsite where we our camper and park model home for four years. This is our first summer not heading to the Lake and it feels a little strange to be honest. Even though the camp was literally 5 minutes from our house, we would spend the entire summer there (basically move in) once school was out for the summer. It was direct waterfront on a great full recreational lake and we will definitely miss it. I am hoping once the snow goes away and the weather gets warmer, those feelings of missing the camp will fade once we can get outside at our new house, open the pool and set up the patio.
It’s been a long winter between my gram passing away, my grandfather’s failing health, selling our previous home and moving into our new home. There has been a lot of changes in the past 5 months. The warmer weather is right around the corner and like you, we are looking forward to doing some Spring yard cleanup and tackle some outdoor projects.
