Have you ever heard of Maine Cottage?  Maine Cottage is a home furnishings business, which opened over 20 years ago in Yarmouth, Maine. The company was started from scratch with eleven furniture designs, prototyped by a carpenter named “Cookie”, five bold colors from Carol’s paint palette, and an offer from a friend to design the first brochure for free. I love companies that start with a family and an idea. Today I am sharing with you how to design a room with Maine Cottage and when we are finished, they are giving away a $500 gift card to one of you. Keep reading, the giveaway is coming soon!

As many of you know, we are currently working on a fireplace makeover in our study. The entire room is getting a top to bottom makeover so I thought I would share just how easy it is to design a room with Maine Cottage. Ideally, our study will have a small media area for viewing the television as well as a homework and blogging station. The room isn’t very large and the beautiful thing about Maine Cottage is, in addition to regular sized furniture, they offer apartment sized and slim lined furniture. Perfect for our room!

My absolute favorite part of the site, besides the really cool furniture, is they tell you what coordinates with what! You simply click on your fabric choice and they provide suggestions for coordinating colors and fabric swatches. It really is very simple. Coordinating patterns and colors can be very overwhelming and they really do a great job keeping it simple. I put together a mood board of Maine Cottage furnishings and color coordinates of what I would love for our study. Maybe they will send it to me? A girl can dream right? 🙂

My dream seating area with coordinating fabrics for accent pillows:

design a room with maine cottage

Soumak rug, adeline sofa, accent chair, rhubarb fabric, sassy tomato stripes fabric, bluebell paint swatch, iron lamp, tea table

My dream homework & blogging station adjacent to the above seating area:

bay writing desk,  stow-away shelf,  skinny island shelf,  sassy tomato stripes fabric,  bluebell paint swatch,  cork board

I personally would paint the back of the bookcases with the coordinating bluebell paint to match the wall and recover storage boxes in the coordinating striped furniture on the desk chair. I love to mix and match pillow fabrics with accessory pieces. The easiest way to do that is to recover inexpensive storage boxes that you would place inside the bookcase.

Maine Cottage prides themselves on American craftsmanship.

“Our furniture is built and painted with the care and quality of materials that will enable it to maintain its value over time. Each piece is bench built to order by an experienced woodworker. The materials we use are chosen because of their durability and sustainability. The solid wood our builders use is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and comes from well-managed forests. The building techniques we employ are intended to ensure that our furniture stays true for generations. Our furniture designs are based on tradition. Hand-carved details and signature colors are just a few of the traits that give an identifiable look to each Maine Cottage® piece of furniture. After a thorough quality inspection, our painted furniture receives a leather brand of approval and authenticity. We’re certain you will appreciate and enjoy your Maine Cottage® furniture for years to come.”
