3. Incorporate flags
Adding an American flag with red and blue stripes is an easy way to add a patriotic design theme to your Fourth of July decor.
They are not “patriotic throw pillows” but they represent the red, white, and blue color scheme. Since these pillows aren’t distinctly patriotic, you can use them any time of the year! Plus, red, white, and blue are iconic and look great in any yard.
4. Mix and match patterns
Decorating with red white and blue is easy, and when you mix and match patterns, you will create a designer look in no time.
How sweet are the little white stars on this throw pillow? It’s just precious and makes it clear this is a patriotic display.
5. Choose an outdoor rug
Outdoor rugs are a great way to ground your space and give it a cohesive look. You will notice I used a blue rug (this blue rug is similar and a great price) that is perfect for Memorial Day or the 4th of July but is also perfect for the entire summer.
Memorial Day and 4th of July decorations do not need to be gaudy looking. Stick to these easy patriotic outdoor ideas and you will end up with a classy and sophisticated patio.
I am not a fan of loads of ribbon and honestly, less is more when creating a patriotic themed patio.

Outdoor patriotic decorating ideas for front porch
These outdoor decor ideas can definitely be used on a front porch (or side/back porch) too! In fact, if you have a covered porch, you may be able to use some of your indoor decor items as they will be out of the weather.
I am a huge proponent of bringing the indoors outdoors and creating outdoor living spaces that are cozy and warm just like you would inside your home.
I have a large outdoor storage container that I store the indoor patio decor (throw blankets etc.) in, which allows me to add indoor elements easily when entertaining.
4th of July Decor Ideas for Parties
Especially if you’re inviting over a crowd, it’s worth it to invest a little time and money into timeless decor that you can use every summer!
6. Decorate your beverage station
If you are having an outdoor party (don’t miss this post 30 4th of July party ideas), don’t forget to set up a beverage station and decorate it with patriotic decor to wow your guests. Adjacent to the seating area, we have a small pool house that has vinyl cedar shakes, and it was the perfect backdrop for the patriotic beverage station.
7. Create a focal point
Another fun patriotic outdoor decor idea (and if you want to go the extra mile) is to find a cute backdrop (could be greenery, a house wall, or even a pool) to place your table in front of and simply add patriotic decor to the wall or along the table. The banners are really cute and helped add a little pizzazz to the table. Flag bunting would look great here, too!
Red and blue balloon garland is also another budget friendly way to decorate outdoors.
I used a plastic folding table and covered it with a red striped throw blanket. I used 3M command strips to hang the wooden America sign as well as the patriotic paper fans.
You can either buy the paper fans or make your own. An easy patriotic decor idea is to make your own patriotic crafts. They are fun and easy to make.
A tiered tray is perfect for snacks and treats and a great way to display red, white and blue decor. You can make any tiered tray look patriotic by trying red ribbon or blue and white star ribbon around each layer.

8. Look for red, white, and blue containers
Small blue star containers filled with chocolate covered popcorn is a sweet snack that most everyone will love.
Creating a patriotic tablescape is easier than you think. All I did was fill a blue ice bucket with geraniums and added a couple flags. It took about 2 minutes!
The table setting consists of white and blue melamine dishes, layered red and blue placemats and blue checkered napkins that are actually dish towels! I thought they were super cute and coordinated perfectly.

Common Questions about 4th of July Decorations
When should I decorate for Fourth of July?
Although you can decorate whenever you’d like, most people begin changing over their outdoor decor towards the end of June. Since Americana is a timeless style, many people will leave their decor up throughout the summer.
How to decorate for July 4th?
There are many ways to decorate outdoors for the 4th of July without breaking your budget while still creating a sophisticated style.
Start by anchoring your patio furniture over a blue outdoor rug. Then, find red, white, and blue pillows and blankets and layer them together. They don’t need to be overly patriotic – just focus on the color scheme.
Choose a few patriotic elements, like stars and stripes pillows or some decorative flag bunting, to add that patriotic touch without going over the top.
Add red and white flowers, like bold red geraniums. They’re a classic summer container flower and will look amazing on your porch and patio.
Finally, work on creating a focal point. I like to decorate my beverage station in a big way. Hang patriotic signs and paper bunting on the way, add layers of tiered trays and containers, and mix and match different red white and blue containers with non-patriotic options.
