Spring is the perfect time to refresh your front door! A fresh coat of bold black, soft sage, or sunny yellow can instantly boost curb appeal.
Let’s take a look at some of my favorite front door ideas and colors below.
Right now, the front of our home has a small entry way with a cement slab that has deteriorated over the years.
The house has almost tripled in square footage since my parents purchased the house almost 3 years ago (checkout our post that shows our yard), so the tiny roof over the front door needs to be widened to coordinate with the rest of the home.
This isn’t the best picture (and yes, that enormous tree needs to either be removed or many of the large limbs need to be cut) of the front of our house but you can kind of see the front door through the tree.
We plan on also adding shutters to the front of the house as well. It only took my dad almost 30 years to agree that the front of the house needs a bit of curb appeal!
I love how the front door is red below and it pops against the grey shingles. We have brown shingles on the lower portion of the house so red would look fabulous.
Right now, you our front door blends in with the color of the house.
This is probably my favorite exterior door idea that I came across.
I love the architectural detail along the roof line and the simple columns. What a perfect place for your house number!
Even if you don’t need to replace your existing door, adding molding and planters are easy ways to add architectural interest to your front door.
Adding a fresh coat of paint to your front door is also an easy weekend project that will instantly add curb appeal.

I can’t wait for spring either (we are in Idaho so we have a while too). My first project will be to paint our front door. We have a gray siding house and I am planning to paint it sole by sherwin Williams. Although, seeing your red ideas makes me want to do red! I can’t wait to see how the front of your house turns out.
Have you thought about building a front porch along the whole width of the main section of your house? That would be so pretty, especially with hanging baskets, etc. I hope you go with red for the door and shutters, and I really hope you don’t have to cut down that beautiful tree!
We would LOVE a farmers porch but my dad isn’t on board 🙁 . My mom has been trying to get him to add one for almost 30 years! ha. As for the tree, I don’t think my mother would ever allow the tree to be cut down so a nice trimming will be necessary. Right now, it dwarfs the house and the limbs are staring to hit the roof line so it’s time for a hair cut 🙂
I love all of these ideas! I really need to spruce up my front door. I bought a kickplate and knocker before Christmas and just can’t find the time to install them. I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with. I agree with Jeanine.. a porch would be awesome! That’s one of my biggest regrets about our house is not getting a porch.
I love a front porch!
Repainting our front door and sprucing up the porch area have been on my list for awhile. I’m hoping this spring/summer I will finally get around to fixing things up a bit!
