A few days ago I shared our DIY lacquered decorative boxes as well as my intent to create a fresh new bookcase theme in our family room. This fall, I decided to decorate our family room with lavender + gold. Not your typical autumn color scheme but for me, I wanted a change from traditional orange and red theme.
This bookcase sits in the corner of our family room and the shelves are normally painted white but for the next upcoming months, I decided to wrap them in wrapping paper for a fresh new look.
I think the chevron pattern adds a bold yet simple statement to the space. I picked up some new throw pillows for our family room and by accident, this paper ended up coordinating quite nicely. Don’t you love when that happens? I do!
I really love how the lacquered boxes look with the gold accents. I mixed in simple autumn touches by adding the gold pumpkins. I mixed in different textures by adding a wood bowl, wood boxes and baskets in the same color family as well as mixing in the gold metal frame and pumpkin.
Do you find decorating bookshelves difficult? I do. I have learned though that picking two colors, in this case lavender and gold, helps keep it simple. I try not to match the colors, but stay in the same color family. Does that make sense? My son said when he got home from school yesterday, “wow mom, your bookcase looks beautiful.” Awww my sweet little man. He thinks everything his mama does is beautiful. Love him to pieces :). The foyer vignette is complete and now the lavender and gold bookcase is complete. Now to paint some pumpkins!
