Laundry room organization + sneak peek of shelves

Our laundry room makeover is making significant progress. The new DIY floating shelves are completed and the first coat of primer has been applied. Today I am headed out to the paint store to pickup some color swatches and hoping to finish this project this weekend. The new shelves offer the storage and organization that was much needed in this space. The laundry room {closet} is small so getting the appropriate sized bins, containers and laundry accessories is important.

When I work on a project, I always have pinterest board full of inspirational photo’s that I can refer to. It keeps me organized and from getting overwhelmed. I rounded up a group of my favorite laundry room organization photos from Better Homes and Gardens.

I am so excited that we were able to create a folding station similar to the one above. Ours isn’t that big but it works. I love the idea of corralling small items in a lazy suzan or a round tray.

We have many baskets in our home that will be perfect for holding glass jars. Glass or plastic containers seemed to be everywhere a couple months ago and I thought, oh those will be perfect for our laundry room. Now I can’t find any! Does that ever happen to you? I should have purchased them when I saw them.

Creating a smaller cubed bookcase within a larger shelf is a great way to keep smaller bottles organized as shown above. I also love how they used a decorative paper as a background. Canvas covered coordinating baskets also offer a great for clothes pins and smaller laundry room essentials.

I am on the hunt for a counter top lazy suzan like the one above. In fact, this one would be perfect! A rubber base with a stainless steel edging. If anyone knows where I can buy this, let me know :).

Getting organized in our laundry room was one of the main purposes of the makeover. It helped that our previous washer and dryer died at the same time and we needed new ones. The opportunity presented itself to empty out the closet and start fresh. A folding station for us, was the first step in staying organized. I am more apt to fold the clothes if it’s convenient. Laundry is my weakness. No. Doubt. About. It.

This laundry entertainment center below is jam packed with fabulous laundry organization ideas. While we won’t be needing all of them, I did take the idea of small hooks for the hidden portion of our laundry room closet wall. I love envelopes full of fragrance and hanging them on a hook is a great idea! Hanging the lint roller on a hook is also clever.

Here is a sneak peek of our floating shelves. They are super easy to make and boy what a difference they make in our laundry room. I will be sharing the tutorial soon.

laundry room organization

In my opinion, laundry room organization is the key to success. By success, I mean, doing the laundry! ha. For me, I am much more inclined to stay motivated if I am happy and don’t cringe when I walk into the room. I think it’s like that for all spaces personally. If a room is a mess and unorganized, I tend to avoid it. There is nothing better, for me, then an organized pretty space.

  1. Hi, Jessica–

I didn’t find them on the website, but my local Bed, Bath, and Beyond has lazy susans just like that (though I think they are white, not stainless–but maybe they have stainless now too). They are in the kitchen organization section, in at least three sizes and very reasonably priced (especially with their coupons). I’ve got several for my pantry and love them.

    Hope this helps!

    Best,
    Anne

  5. I really need to get organized with our laundry!! We are 5 in our family and our problem are the towels!! My teenage boy uses one clean towel for his daily shower and although he does his own laundry he has a mountain of them in his room!! What I did was to take out all the old towels and just leave 2 towels for him, 1 towel for my daughter, 1 for the baby and 3 towels for mom and dad. The socks is not and issue for us, everyone takes care of their own socks. I use a mesh bag for the baby’s socks and I take care of my husbands socks. Thanks for the ideas of organizing laundry day I will put them to the test.
