Do I have a treat for you all today! Our large family indoor outdoor living space surrounded by nature is finally complete and no, we didn’t build an outdoor room, we utilized the large outdoor patio and shrunk it into a cozy indoor like space.
Outdoor living spaces that work
Our outdoor living space is surrounded by by beautiful shrubs and trees (thank you to the previous owners for designing a patio surrounded by nature!) which lends to a cozy outdoor living space.
I absolutely LOVE this multipurpose outdoor sectional and dining table set. You literally have two outdoor patio sets in one.
The outdoor sectional, chairs and ottomans serve as seating for the dining table OR you can remove the table, use it as a beverage station and add an outdoor coffee table or fire pit coffee table.
Isn’t that amazing!? I was particularly impressed with the affordability. I have priced out many outdoor furniture sets and this one by far is the most affordable and the quality is great. Plus, you get two sets in one essentially for the cost of one.
Here is a picture of our outdoor living space before.
The outdoor living space is fairly large, larger than I have ever had before so my challenge when designing the outdoor living space was to “bring it in” and “shrink it” by creating a cozy indoor outdoor feel seating area.
As many of you know, my heart lies with a modern rustic farmhouse look with hints of a Hamptons coastal design during the summer months so I constantly find myself gravitating towards that feel in our new house even though our new house design is the furthest thing from that!
What is indoor outdoor living?
Indoor outdoor living is literally just an extension of the inside of your home. Think of moving your family room, living room or dining room outdoors. It’s the same concept, just with outdoor furniture and outdoor decor.
The outdoor sectional and dining room table set accomplished my mission of a cozy seating area (similar to my dining room and living room )
Connecting Indoor and Outdoor spaces
If you are stuck or overwhelmed with how to create your own indoor outdoor living space, think in terms of what your spaces inside your home are used for and just duplicate that outdoors on your patio, deck or lawn.
My mom loves to read so we set up this quiet spot with 2 chaise lounge chairs and umbrella.
Pretty cozy right?
The umbrella is oversized and has the the tilt function which allows you to adjust according to the the sun direction. I love this umbrella!
Indoor outdoor room ideas
You can easily create an indoor outdoor room in just about any section of your yard. Whether it be a patio, deck or lawn space, creating cozy gathering areas (just as you would indoors) is the ultimate goal. You can get as creative as you want!
One thing I plan to do in out indoor outdoor living space to to hang outdoor lights. I personally love the edison style lights and I also think simple Christmas lights strung on the inside of the umbrella would look great too.
