It’s March! Where did February go and how is that I am already talking about Spring? Thank you so much for all your sweet emails, comments and facebook messages about my grandfather. We are bringing him home TODAY from short term rehabilitation so wish us luck, he’s been gone for a month and hopefully he adjusts well to being back home. Today, I am sharing our Blue + Pink Living Room Decorating Ideas as part of the Decked and Styled Spring Tour hosted by Bree at ZBYDESIGNATHOME and guys can I just tell you, I am honored to be a part of such an amazing lineup of design bloggers. These ladies are ridiculously talented and I am thrilled to be a part of this tour.
If you are coming from The House Of Silver Lining, welcome! I met Shaunna a couple years ago at a Better Homes and Gardens event in New York City and we have become great friends.
Our living room is actually getting emptied out in a couple weeks and we are installing a gorgeous light driftwood styled hardwood floor that is going to look amazing in the room. We have always wanted hardwood flooring in this room and it’s finally going to happen.
Baby steps right?
For Spring this year, we decided to go with blues and pinks.
Coffee table styling can be a bit overwhelming so for me, I always have some sort of a tray or basket which is where I start the decorating process. Our coffee table ottoman alone, doesn’t work well for drinks or decor so it’s necessary to have a flat tray as the hard surface for such items. The tray looks kind of silly by itself so I always try to add either a vase or two filled with flowers (faux or real) along with coasters for drinks. You may remember my post from a few weeks ago How to Decorate with Pops of Color, where I used candles and a vase filled with Winter Lilies on the wooden tray. We have dogs and kids to I don’t burn candles within their reach but candles are a great inexpensive decorating solution.
Here is a peek of the coffee table decorated a few weeks ago using candles.
Blue hydrangeas and pink snapdragons coordinated perfectly with the soft pastel colored pillows.
The sisal basket under the coffee table works out great for small kids toys and keeping kid clutter organized! We have a huge wooden window seat (storage bench) in this room that my dad and I made a few years ago which now acts as a toy box.
I moved our apothecary floor lamps and pink chair from our study to the living room and moved the tripod lamps and blue club chair that use to be in the living room to the study. Sometimes just swapping out room decor and small furniture pieces is all you need to do to create a fresh new space. Although, I am guilty of swapping out large furniture pieces from time to time. -ha.
My husband and dad get a little annoyed when they hear me say, “hey, can you help me move something?”
If your couch is floating in the middle of the floor, try adding a sofa table behind it. Not only does it help anchor the couch from looking lost in the middle of the floor, it also creates a hard surface for lighting and decorative home decor. In case you are wondering, the lamp does work. I have an extension cord that runs under the couch to the back wall where the leaning artwork is. Nobody walks behind the couch as the couch is only about 1 foot off the wall so it’s not a tripping hazard.
Styling Tip: Add a solid surface inside a basket to create a pretty vignette. In this case, I added a round wooden mirror tray (cutting boards work great too) to the inside of a round sisal basket. A perfect place for a pretty collection of candles. Think layers when decorating! The basket is the first layer, the mirrored tray is the second layer and the candles are the third.

All of the shades of pink look really pretty in your living area. I’m praying that your grandfather has a good transition being back at home.
Jessica those blue and pink touches are perfect in your home! I LOVE that fuchsia chair and how it just brings it all together! Fabulous!
Good luck with your grandfather – hope all goes well! Love how fresh this room looks and bet it will be even more amazing with new flooring – that’s huge! So fun to tour with you Jessica!
I’m LOVING the pink chair in here Jessica! You have such great styling tips! Your family room has always been one of my favorites and I can’t wait to see it with new wood floors! I hope your grandfather is settling in well back home!
xoxo
Jessica! This space looks so beautiful with all of the pinks and blues! Love it! ? And what a fun idea to put a tray inside of a basket. Going to have to try that one. Happy Spring sweet friend! xo
I love the vibrant pink chair but the blue pillows seem too dark. They add a “pop” of color but not a “POP” of color. A more vibrant blue would maybe give that “POP!” My eyes are drawn to the chair on the right but the pillows don’t bring my eye across the room. Fabulous room!!
THanks so much Jennifer!
love those soft pastel colors in your living room!!!
Thanks Kellie!
