Styling a Room is Like Styling Your Life

You know, styling a room is like styling your life. Think about that. Today’s post is pretty simple and just some real talk I wanted to share with you. Everything that is going on with my grandfather, the passing of my gram and the idea of “getting older” has me reflecting on my own self and how I want to feel. It’s funny how the evolution of “life” works. Watching everyone in my own life getting older, has stopped me in tracks about my own life.

I recently realized that I can make rooms look pretty for a living along with picking out pretty coordinating outfits to wear but my “inside body” was a mess. What does that mean? Well, I wasn’t eating healthy, I was constantly running the rat race throughout the day to keep up and wasn’t taking care of “me.” How could I make rooms look so good and my own mind and body be so messy? The light bulb went off a couple months ago when I decided to take a chance and try something totally outside my comfort zone.

I am coming up on my 7 year blog anniversary and when I started my blog, I didn’t know how social media worked and didn’t even know what a blog was. I have no background in interior design, just a mom who loves making things pretty and making a home cozy on a budget.

I know, what the heck am I doing sharing Christmas in July? I can’t help but love our family room in our old house. Styling this room seems like yesterday. It’s amazing how fast time goes by.

Do you agree?

I’ve been really lucky to work with some amazing brands in this journey (this picture was taken during a HomeGoods shoot in a room I designed) and every time I think back to the period I decided to share my crazy life with the public, I thank God I did.

By accident, I managed to create a full time business and income which changed the course of my life. A course that I am so thankful for!

 Imagine if I didn’t take a chance?

With age comes wisdom ( well hopefully lol) and with wisdom comes change. My most recent change has been to get my body & mind in order.

Styling a room is like styling your life

I look at the rooms I have styled and how “in order” they look. Geesh, if only my mind and body were this “in order” I would say to myself.

My goals:

*To drop the excess baby weight from 12 years ago

*To have energy to be excited about my day (That’s a big one)

*To continue to pave the way to help provide for my family

For those who know me well, you know nutrition and fitness were just not my thing.

I think back to a couple months ago when a friend said, “just try this program for 30 days.” Imagine if I didn’t take a chance?” I would still be aggravated as crap at myself not feeling good in my own skin, tired and annoyed with myself.

Do you know what I mean?

Have you been in that place before?

The place of , “oh I’ll do it tomorrow!!”

I came to the conclusion that if I didn’t get my mind and body “in order,” I wasn’t going to be any good to anyone else, especially my son and family. The old saying, “take care of yourself first and the rest will follow,” well there is actually something to that.

three generations of family

Today is a new day and even though it’s crappy weather here in Mass, today could be YOUR day if you want the change bad enough. I am not the preachy type and trust me, things are not always peaches and roses over here (oh if you were a fly on our walls! -ha) but if you are interested in hearing about how I got my tired butt in gear and continue to work towards my “lose the baby fat” and “gain energy” goal, leave a comment below, email me at jessica (at) fourgenerationsoneroof (dot) com or message me on Facebook or Instagram 🤗

    1. Thank you Brenda! I have been posting more of the journey on my personal facebook page (which is public) and Instagram and it has surprised me how many people have reached out with encouragement and can relate. What I really love about the program is it’s 80% nutrition and 20% exercise. For me, that’s huge. -ha. Not a fan of going to the gym 🙂

You are such an inspiration! Would love to know more about your journey. I am a long way up from your age group but would like to try. You described me perfectly. Everything around me is in pristine order but I am a disaster. Enough said.
