Our family room is one of the most used rooms in our home. This room is actually the first makeover I did when I first started blogging almost 5 years ago. I decided to lighten up the blue walls a bit with a lighter green color and a more traditional styled couch compliments of  Wayfair.

SHOP THE LOOK

We moved our old slipcovered couch downstairs to my parents family room (sharing that makeover soon) and she donated her furniture to my cousin who just bought a new home.

We started by emptying the room (well mostly) and adding a fresh coat of paint compliments of Sherwin-Williams. The walls are painted Rainwashed, Pure White to the planks and Extra White for the trim. Yes, even Sponge Bob was on tv while I painted.-ha

Next we added this gorgeous sectional from Wayfair in a Bailey Papyrus Blend fabric color (it’s in the “other” section of the fabric color section). It’s absolutely gorgeous and very comfortable. I love the sleek track arms and tapered legs. The perfect mix of comfort and sophistication.

Family Room Summer Makeover

I wanted a summer look with a hint of coastal. The blue, green and gold pillows helped achieve that goal.

I love the idea of having a neutral light colored sectional, it allows you to have fun with a rug! I decided to anchor the space (yes you can layer an area rug over a rug) with this gorgeous, soft dark blue rug from Dash & Albert.

The space needed some pizzaz but I still wanted it to be calm and cozy and this rug did the trick.

I brought in the oversized industrial cabinet from the playroom (now being turned into my office) and used it as a sofa table behind the couch.

This worked out great because I love this cabinet but it’s huge and I didn’t have a place for it since we moved the playroom downstairs so it was sitting lonely in a mess of a space, I call my office. I am hoping to have my new office completed this September.

Family Room Summer Makeover

The burlap curtains that I made in our previous family room design were almost 5 years old and they were incredibly dusty. As you know, you can’t wash burlap so I decided to swap them out for simple light brown cotton/poly blend drapes. More on that in a later post.

I used our same industrial styled coffee table and accessorized with a fun tray to coral books and remotes.

Even our new pup Murphy, loves the new family room.

I love how the rug adds a great pop of color without overwhelming the room. I used the tripod lamps that we got a couple years ago from Wayfair and they coordinated perfectly. That is the best thing about getting transitional pieces, they go with just about every style.

Isn’t the couch stunning?

We added the wing back chairs from my mom’s small living room (yes we play musical furniture a lot) off her bedroom and while I do like them, she told me she was taking them to the camp soon for her new sunroom so I need to find two more chairs.

It’s hard to believe that the summer is half way over. I can’t even wrap my head around the fact that August is right around the corner. Needless to say, I will be decorating our family room for Fall soon. -ha.

Disclosure: I received complimentary product from Wayfair and Dash & Albert. All opinions and words are 100% my own. The furnishings and accessories are gorgeous and we love them.

Oh, Jessica, this is a beautiful room! It looks like something that Candace Olsen did. She previously had a show on HGTV called, “Divine Design” and that it was. She amazed me every time. I absolutely LOVE the cabinet behind the sofa. I always imagined when someone put a lamp on something tall behind a sofa it would shed the best light ever for reading or working. TFS your vision.
I am curious, you may have addressed this already and if so you can tell me where to find it on your blog, are you an interior designer? If so, I would LOVE to know what school you went to and how you got started on this journey. It’s okay if you just tell me to mind my business also.

    1. Thank you! I loved that show Divine Design. Candace Olsen is amazing. I have no design training…ha. Just a regular o’l girl trying to decorate her house 🙂

  2. I love this room. I went on Wayfair to find sofa. I am having difficulty with the fabric color used. What is the name of it? Thanks so much!

    1. Hi, the color name is Bailey Papyrus Blend. It’s in the “other” section of the upholstery fabric selection 🙂 I just added that to the blog post too, I thought it was in there but it wasn’t.

  3. Love the new look … from the awesome sofa … beautiful paint … pretty rug and cabinet! Great job … I know y’all are enjoying it! (We love SpongeBob, too!)

    1. haha thanks Becca! I couldn’t believe it when I was editing the pictures and there was Sponge Bob 😉

  4. Everything looks beautiful Jess! Loving the new wall color and the couch is super pretty.
Great mix of comfy without looking sloppy. I love it!
And of course… ya gotta love the Murph man :)))

  5. Beautiful room! Would you mind sharing the new blue/green paint color you used? It’s lovely..

      1. Thanks so much – I really appreciate the response!
I should have asked you where you got the new drapes. I love how you can see through them, they don’t appear too heavy, yet they look to have some of the same texture/color of the burlap.
Do you mind sharing where you got them?.. last question, I promise 🙂

  6. How is the fabric holding up on your sectional now that you have had it for a while?

    1. Still looks the same as the day we got it! The couch is great quality in my opinion
