Just stopping in real quick to share the latest battle my grandfather had.
His jeans and belt got the best of him.
He showed up for breakfast yesterday with his pants on completely backwards.
My husband said, “Fred, what’s up with your pants?”
He laughed and said, “well I put them on (they were buttoned and he thought they were his sweatpants) and once I got my boots on I realized they were on backwards.”
He wasn’t about to take his boots off and flip his pants around so he left them backwards.
Seriously Gramp?
Yep. That’s my gramp!
You see, he has lost a lot of weight and his belts are not holding up his pants so I drilled new holes in his belts yesterday for him. He is having major issues with keeping his pants up!! -ha.
You may remember the suspender video I shared a couple weeks ago. Well he hates the suspenders so he won’t wear them. So his pants keep falling down!
I am filing this under our Dementia Diaries series although he completely knows he put his pants on backwards. I am keeping all my gramp stories in one area!
Meet Jessica
What started as a hobby, Jessica’s blog now has millions of people visit yearly and while many of the projects and posts look and sound perfect, life hasn’t always been easy. Read Jessica’s story and how overcoming death, divorce and dementia was one of her biggest life lessons to date.
Oh, Jessica! I have found through the years that humor does have a strong grip on things that could drive you batty. Your Gramps is a wonderful and normal older man. My husband and I do things like this that keep me chuckling all day and then some. Mt most favorite story about your Grampa is the fight with the backward upside down jacket. His smile is infectious. Please keep the stories coming. TFS so unselfishly. Have a great weekend. I can’t believe that Christmas Eve is exactly 2 weeks from today, where is the time going????
Jessica, I wish I had thought of it sooner. Suspenders are a waist of money.. pun intended… I bought my dad 3 pairs
for Christmas three years ago. I thought it was a good idea. I wasted my money. My brother, who takes care of my dad, said dad wore them to church on the outside of his sweatshirt. Yes, I said on the outside of a sweatshirt. Scott said he just shook his head. Oh and he said dad says “they were too damn tight”. LOL He had not even adjusted them. Life with dementia. WOW.
haha that is funny about the sweatshirt 😉 Yep, we are back to using belts and oh, it helps that we got rid of his old pants from centuries ago when he weighed 75 more lbs . He can’t put them on if they aren’t in his closet! 🙂 He loved all those pants. He said they were “worn in” well of course they were, you have worn them for 50+ years! Love my gramps 🙂
I laughed and cried at this post. I am dealing with dementia at our house. Your Grandpa has the right attitude…so what if my pants are on backwards. JUST HUMOR HIM AND LOVE HIM. Maybe it’s time to put elastic in the waistbands of his pants.
yep it’s always an adventure. We decided to get him pants that fit! lol. That helped throwing out his pants from 60 years ago when he weighed 75 more lbs. 😉
I love this story and told my husband that I thought it was cute because we’ve all had those days.
