Are you ready for some modern farmhouse decor ideas? I am beyond excited to share with you my new colorful modern farmhouse office decorating ideas (which happens to be in my grandfather’s old bedroom) today and I love how it turned out.
A couple of months ago Kelly from Kelly Elco invited us, along with 9 other bloggers, to be a part of her Color Lovers Summer Series which is sponsored by Birch Lane, The Mine and Minted.
It couldn’t have come at a better time because as many of you know, I recently took over the space above our garage and am in the process of renovating it as my work studio for blogging, photography projects and prop storage.

Modern Farmhouse Decor
I wanted to incorporated a large rustic table as my desk and this Oliver Writing desk from Birch Lane by far, exceeding my expectations. At first I wasn’t sure if my room was big enough to have a desk floating in the middle of the floor but once I got the desk in the space, it worked perfectly.
I wanted to be able to see out the window and view the door into the room as well and this layout achieved both.
The ivory and yellow geometric rug from The Mine infused a gorgeous pop of neutral color. I love how the rug brings out the warm brown tones in the desk.
The modern oversized lateral filing cabinets (maple color) from The Mine are beautiful and added the modern warm element to the room I was looking for. The desk doesn’t have any closed storage so I wanted to make sure I had enough storage space in filing cabinets.
While these cabinets are meant for hanging files, I plan on using one of them for photography stuff and lens storage. All of the colorful wall art is from Minted and I love how the pops of blue and pink colors look against the neutral white walls.
The beautiful slipcovered linen armless chair is from The Mine and is actually a dining room accent chair. Many times office chairs look like “office chairs.” I wanted a fabric furniture piece as my desk chair and didn’t chair about wheels on the chair so I opted to take the dining room chair route.
Kind of cute right? It’s super comfortable and is the perfect height.
Modern Farmhouse Decor
I have a ton of cooking and decorating books and the industrial styled hanging metal rack from Birch Lane was the perfect choice to store these items while keeping with the farmhouse theme.
Mixing metals, rustic wood tones and modern elements will help you achieve this farmhouse look.
Here is another look at the corner near the closet.
After.
Peonies Mason Jar Print | Coffee Print | Heart Wall Art
Minted Notebooks / Address Books
The smaller seagrass basket from Birch Lane worked out perfectly as a trash basket and the larger ones are perfect for the corners near the filing cabinets. You can never have enough storage in an office!

Many times, Modern Farmhouse design features neutral off white colors but for me, I wanted to incorporate color so I did this by adding a colorful rug, pictures, books planters and fresh flowers.
There you have it, my new colorful modern farmhouse office space. Hopefully you found some office decorating ideas that you too, can incorporate in your own office. Special thanks to The Mine, Birch Lane and Minted for sponsoring the series and the complementary furniture.

Love this office. I moved my oversized desk so my back is to the windows. I need to move it back to see both the door and the window. I’m always looking over my shoulder! Sending prayers and thoughts from Colorado for your grandfather and family! xo laura
Oh Jess, it’s so pretty. I love how you use things I wouldn’t normally pick, and then… I LOVE them!!
Like those filling cabinets. They are so gorgeous in your space, and the deck too of course, but those cabinets are so pretty as a pair flanking the window. You have a perfect spot to work now. Well deserved my friend 🙂
I’m jealous – to have that whole room to yourself is amazing! I love the neutral backdrop to all the fun pops of color. Now grab a bottle of wine and lock yourself in that office and enjoy yourself!
Hey, Jess, this looks beautiful! Such a nice job on pulling this space together with that gorgeous desk and chair and all the color and texture. I’ve been thinking about you with your grandfather in the nursing home. It’s so hard!
What a wonderful office space!! It’s so bright and cheerful. I love the rug and all of the ways that you have organized the room. It’s beautiful and functional! Great job Jess!!

Hi Jessica – You must be loving your new office. It looks so inviting and will make working a pleasure. I love all the touches of color all around all the way down to your pink stapler.
Where did you get the pillow that’s on the armchair? It’s so pretty!
