Thanksgiving tablescape ideas + apples

I needed to get myself back in the mood for fall and refocus on fall decorating. I finished decorating my christmas tree this past weekend for the Home Depot style challenge and I found myself so excited for christmas that I realized, I still have Thanksgiving to celebrate! I thought you might enjoy some fall inspiration using these DIY home decor tips.

It has become evident to me that green apples are the chosen accessory for many photo shoots. Not only did the stylists from the This Old House photo shoot and the Woman’s Day photo shoot use green apples, but many pictures I have been finding online lately are using green apples!

Here is a shot of our family room that I took while the This Old House photographers and stylists were here. See, green apples!

I love how the green apples are combined with the pumpkins on this next fall tablescape.

These next guys look like faux textured apples to me but thankfully one of my readers pointed out that they osage oranges.   They are pretty interesting and add great texture against the galvanized tray.

I love this next picture how Karin used a grapevine wreath and nestled apples within. So pretty! I came across her blog when I found this picture on pinterest. She has some beautiful pictures!

This next photo has DIY written all over it for me. Simply add some tipped baskets to your table and add apples. I love the butter churn, may be to big for a table but you could accessorize your table with something textured with height similar to the churn creating a variety of heights.

Of course, this next photo is a favorite, it’s our peninsula area in our family room that Eric Roth shot for the This Old House Magazine. Four little apples on the shelf.

The next time I head to the grocery store, I am going to buy some green apples and see what kind of a fall tablescape I can come up with. How about you, do you use fresh fruit or apples to decorate with? I would love some ideas!

Today, I am headed out to help (well, do alot of watching and photographing) build a farmers porch at our workplace and get the anthropologie curtains hung that I showed you a couple days ago. I am toying around with the idea of starting a new series here on the blog called “how to build”. I said to my dad the other day while sitting in our kitchen, “what do you think about sharing some of the stuff that is done at work on the blog?” My dad said, “why the heck would you want to do that?”. haha. The man is never going to understand the blog and I’ve stopped trying to explain it! haha. Anyway, there is lots that goes on at our workplace from building modular homes, to moving them with cranes, constructing garages, decks, farmers porches all the way down to simply renovating someones home or refinishing a basement. The “how to build a farmers porch” may debute soon on the blog. What do you think about that idea?

I think it would very cool to read about that. I get inspiration, although don’t always follow through, from reading what other people are building or doing. At least I can dream right?

They aren’t “textured green apples,” they’re osage oranges.

I love all these ideas! Throwing a simple bowl of apples on a counter makes the kitchen look instantly better even (and distracts everyone from my dirty dishes!).

I love all of your ideas!! I noticed in your living room you have a beautiful TV stand…I’m looking for that exact type of table with a wooden top and white bottom to match my living room/dining room pieces and can’t find one anywhere. Where’s it from?? Thanks!!!
