This weekend we decided to rent a campsite for the summer season on a lake. We have been talking about his idea for 3 years now and never pulled the trigger. Well this year, it’s a done deal! I have been scouring the internet looking for DIY fire pit ideas and have pinned a slew of them to our new RV + Camping board if you would like to follow along. I grew up with a camper and have been trying to convince my husband (the city boy who is scared of bugs) that camping is fun and offers tremendous serenity. Needless to say, it took me a couple years but now he has decided to give it a try. The funny thing is, my parents are on board as well so we are doing a joint venture and fixing up the site together. Four generations that live, work, vacation and now camp together. My dad has agreed to fix the rotted decks and help clean things up. I know, some of you might think we are crazy but that’s how we roll around here ;). My grandmother has already said, “make sure there is a ramp for wheel chair because I want to go too!” My grandfather is so excited to get over to the campsite and supervise the clean up.
More on that this week.
Here are my favorite DIY fire pit ideas for our campsite.
I am in LOVE with this recent fire pit table top idea by Kelly over at the LilyPad Cottage. This girl has the best projects! In fact, I showed this idea to my mom and her response was, “oh we need to build one like that.” Thanks Kelly for the idea!
Melissa at the Inspired room just completed this fire pit where she provides a fabulous and easy tutorial so you can make your own. I definitely think I could this!
This fire pit is a bit more involved but I love the round circle that the stone created with the pit in the middle. I found this image on pinterest and unfortunately, don’t know the source so if you know, please let me know.
I love how she used brick edging on this one below.
I would love to build a raised stone pit like this one below. I am thinking that I may need to mortar the stones together? Will have to research this option. Isn’t it pretty?
A boulder fire pit is a clever idea, especially if you have boulders near by that you can roll in to place.
We are looking forward to our summer adventure on the lake and cleaning up the site. A DIY fire pit will be first on the list as well as creating a deck area. We will at some point, create a screened in area on the deck for more sleeping space when we are all there together. I plan on sharing our camp and lakeside projects with you throughout the summer, so get ready, lots more to come ;).
