Homemade Christmas Decorations {our reindeer + more}

Homemade Christmas decorations add a personal touch to any tree or home. My grandfather has been making homemade Christmas ornaments and decorations since the spring! His workshop is loaded with DIY snowmen, reindeer and north pole signs. I will be sharing a few of them over the next couple weeks. It keeps him busy and out of my grandmothers hair. Last year he showed me how to use his scroll saw and we made these adorable wooden christmas reindeer that I used to decorate a vignette in our family room.

My friend Kim at Sand and Sisal is like a crafting queen. I will admit, crafting sometimes gets the best of me and makes me crazy. Sometimes I find it easier to paint or makeover a room then craft. She made this Pottery Barn inspired NOEL sign that is simply beautiful for a fraction of the one at Pottery Barn. My grandfather made me a HO HO and JOLLY sign out of wood and I can’t wait to get it painted. I think it’s going to look great on our new fireplace mantel which is almost completed. DIY wooden letters or styrofoam letters are such an inexpensive way to add charm and character to a room.

Here is a pretty bay leaf tree vignette by Kim as well.

Now Miss Brittany at Pretty Handy girl is one of the most clever blogger buddies I have. This girl can make anything out of “anything.” Here she is sharing her homemade christmas decorations made from plumbing supplies. I love her.

Here is a simple chalk paint ornament that I made when I first starting blogging. The picture isn’t that great but the tutorial is fun and easy. Your kids would love this! It reminds me of the planet earth.

Vanessa and Heather from The Picket Fence are super talented and their blog is their daily connection for keeping family together. You see, they are sisters that live on either side of the country and they share their lives, recipes, home decorating and much more on their blog. Two sisters – one blog! These girls can whip up a home decorating tutorial or recipe in no time. I love this Ballard Designs inspired table runner they made.

Homemade christmas decorations are fun and the process can even create memories. I will never forget my grandfather showing me how to use his scroll saw and us in his workshop next to the wood stove making our reindeer one afternoon. That is a benefit for sure of multigenerational living, the opportunities for memories that otherwise most likely wouldn’t happen are always there for the taking :).

I am grateful for that!

    Jessica, they are all lovely ornaments. It’s a fabulous time of year and it’s great seeing all the Christmas decorations up in the shopping centres. Looking forward to seeing your words and your mantel!
