Our Finding Fall Home Tour 2013

Welcome to our fall home tour! If you just came from Gina’s house over at the Shabby Creek Cottage, I am so excited that you are here and if you are new to our blog, we are a crew of four generations all living together under one roof. There are nine of us total and our blog is where we share our insane living arrangement, home renovation projects and anything DIY related. By the way, I am Jessica! The Finding Fall Home Tour is comprised of 16 bloggers and Better Homes and Gardens sharing fall inspiration from all over the country. I told my grandfather we would be having guests visiting today and he needed to be on his best behavior. He just stared and rolled his eyes at me when I told him you would be here virtually. He turned 84 yesterday and he hasn’t quiet grasped the concept of our blog.

Lets get started with the home tour!

We have a few exterior doors in our home and this is the one we use 99% of the time. This covered outside space is located right off the main driveway and leads to our foyer.

fall home tour 2013

Welcome to our foyer.  I don’t think we have ever entered through the front door! ha

We have a couple TV rooms in our house to accommodate everyone but this is our family room where me, my husband, kids and two dogs hang out.

Fall Home Tour 2013

We chose a lavender and gold color scheme for fall and I think it is my favorite room right now. Lavender and gold are not your traditional fall colors but by mixing in painted pumpkins and other fall accessories, I think it allows you to venture away from tradition. The natural tan burlap drapes are the ones I made last winter for under $7 a panel. These drapes are probably one of the best DIY projects I have ever done. They coordinate with everything!

This wood and brass lamp, compliments of Wayfair, coordinates with our existing tripod floor lamp on the other side of the room. I absolutely love how it looks next to our couch. I love that Wayfair, they send me the best stuff to display for all of you! I have a thing for dark wood paired with cream linen. I love the contrast!

I found the feather down patterned pillows in Home Goods and was so lucky to find four of the same pattern. The owl pillow is also from Home Goods and fits perfectly in our blue club chair. Don’t laugh but this chair is referred to as the “eating chair”. Some of you may be saying to yourselves, “she lets her kids in dogs in this room?” Everyone eats in this room but if it’s my son and he is having something really messy, he sits in the “eating chair”. ha. The dogs do not get on the furniture but they are obsessed with this rug and our largest dog loves to plop himself right up against the couch.

Our living room is VERY lived it. It hardly ever looks like this unless of course, you are visiting. *wink

The bookcase in this room, behind the couch displays the DIY lacquered boxes I made last week along with lavender + gold autumn accents.

Four Generations One Roof Fall Home Tour 2013

I wrapped the chevron pattern paper around the shelves to add texture to the space. Decorative wrapping paper can work wonders for shelves or a hutch backdrop.

On the other side of the family room is our back door that leads to our covered porch. The space tends to be a catch-all for coats and shoes so we recently added coat hooks, a storage bench and recently turned the shelving area in to a office + storage area for school work and notices. It currently serves as my built in “office”. Four Generations One Roof Fall Home Tour 2013

Gourds are an easy and inexpensive way to add an autumn touch to a space.

Four Generations One Roof Fall Home Tour 2013Painted pumpkins are also a great way to add color to a space. We painted these with chalk paint and added a fun autumn sign to our sofa table.

Our family room is open to our mudroom area which essentially leads to our kitchen.

Our kitchen was recently taken from dreary dark cabinets from 1970’s to a modern white space. All with a little paint. These pictures are courtesy of Woman’s Day Magazine.

Our dining hutch houses all the kids craft and homework supplies. I usually have baskets inside the hutch that are visible but I decided to display the white pottery for fall and put the baskets behind the closed doors.

Four Generations One Roof Fall Home Tour 2013

I decided to remove the yellow paper backing from the hutch and keep the gray and white color scheme for fall.

I  swapped out the charcoal and sand stripped curtains and added these gold geometric printed curtains. I love how they coordinate with the wingback chairs.

Thank you Linda. I love fall and Christmas season :)

  7. Angela September 18, 2013 at 10:35 am #

I love the gold patterned dining room curtains. Gold and lavendar is a perfect fall color scheme! Reminds me of mums and colored trees at dusk. Lovely!

  8. Norma Jean September 18, 2013 at 11:07 am #

Thanks for letting us visit your lovely Fall home! It was fun seeing your non-traditional fall color scheme. BTW,
I think I am falling in love with your grumpy grandfather! Heeheehee.

  9. Laura September 18, 2013 at 11:10 am #

Love the pumpkins on your table, where did you get them?

  10. Karen Watson September 18, 2013 at 11:44 am #

Everything looks so beautiful Jessica!! I always love your projects, but it was so nice to see your entire home! You’ve done an amazing job on it, it all looks so lovely and inviting! And that “eating chair” cracked me up, I think we need one or two of those around here!!
Thanks for the tour sweet friend!

  11. Vanessa September 18, 2013 at 1:03 pm #

Serious, serious gorgeousness!! Jess your home is unbelievable and I absolutely love how you did fall “your way” with a color scheme that works for your home but still totally embraces the season. Well done lady!!

  12. Jennifer @ The Old Painted Cottage September 18, 2013 at 1:09 pm #

Your home is so lovely Jessica. I really enjoyed the tour and the story of your lovely family!

  13. Becca September 18, 2013 at 1:16 pm #

Your Fall home tour is amazing, Jessica! Had I spied those pillows at Home Goods, I would’ve scooped them up in a heartbeat! I love that you wrapped your shelves with the chevron paper (such a cool idea)! I *want* your awesome wingback chairs, too annnnd your painted pumpkins. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Becca! Thanks so much for stopping by :)

      Thank you Cheryl! :)

  15. Diane September 18, 2013 at 3:06 pm #

Your home is lovely and so welcoming. I would have never thought about using lavender, but I love it!

  16. Dina September 18, 2013 at 3:34 pm #

What a great idea! I love the decorating ideas, especially the way you are using the one shelf area by your back door. I’m thinking of coverting a closet in a similar way, but haven’t decided. I’d like an office nook to myself, but don’t want to commit a whole room. Still want to shut the door on it when it’s messy!

  17. Michele in IL. September 19, 2013 at 8:06 am #

wow, this is spectacular! Thank you so much for sharing.

  18. Julia @ Hooked on Houses September 19, 2013 at 8:16 am #

  19. Anne September 19, 2013 at 10:03 am #

Jessica, your fall house tour was a real treat–thank you for sharing, such a lovely home and so much creativity!

Now, a down-to-earth question: what is your secret to keeping your white couch upholstery so clean with all the kids and dogs, and this being your main family room? It doesn’t look like a removable slipcover in the photos, and I am headed toward a new couch soon, and would love white upholstery, but have pets, etc., coming in from outside.

    Thanks so much,

    • Jessica Bruno September 21, 2013 at 12:30 pm #

Thank you! Each cushion has zippered cover so you can wash them. I was them inside out on delicate and air dry. I also vacuum the couch regularly :)

      • Pieliekamais September 23, 2013 at 3:46 pm #

That was my question, too! Good to know, I’ll be looking for removable covers then.
Thank you for the home tour, everything looks beautiful!

  20. Paqui Lladó Pons September 19, 2013 at 1:00 pm #

What a lovely and amazing tour of houses!!! And i still haven’t seen them all! Plenty of

ideas for my home. My brain is already working in projects for the future. All of you

inspire me and encourage me to be willing and able to acomplish them.

    thank you all!!

(from the other side of the World: the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean sea)

    Thank you,

    Paqui (spelled Paki)

  21. Sandy September 20, 2013 at 9:05 pm #

Jessica, I love your home! It’s very warm and cozy! That is so cool that you have 4 generations living under one roof. How you make it all work is incredible. So much wisdom for your kids to learn from.

    • Jessica Bruno September 21, 2013 at 12:29 pm #

Thank you Sandy! Some days are more interesting than others but for the most part, it’s all good:)

  22. GinaE September 21, 2013 at 12:06 pm #

Your home is lovely. I don’t have as many generations under my roof as you do, but my Mom lives with me. May I ask where you got the leaf table runner on your dining table?

    • Jessica Bruno September 21, 2013 at 12:28 pm #

Thank you! It’s from Home Goods

  23. Lisa September 22, 2013 at 9:16 am #

What a beautiful, relaxing home. The very best part of the ‘tour’ was the family picture at the end. :) Thank you for sharing – started my day with a smile.

  24. Monica September 22, 2013 at 11:05 am #

I love your home and your decorating style. :-)

I’m looking for something to put my t.v. on and love your drawer unit. Can you tell me where you purchased it? It looks perfect for what I need.

  34. Amy @ the Happy Tulip October 12, 2013 at 1:29 pm #

Beautiful home! I love the wingback chairs in your dining room. You do such a great job with mixing colors and patterns. So inspiring!

  35. Diana October 13, 2013 at 7:20 pm #

Jessica-Thanks for the home tour. Love the colors you’ve used. Two questions: 1) what color grey did you use for your kitchen walls. I’m having a heck of a time finding the perfect grey; 2) do you have a tutorial for the gorgeous dresser in your foyer? Love the color! Is it chalk paint with dark wax?

    • Jessica Bruno October 14, 2013 at 7:34 pm #

Hi, do you mean the walls in the dining room? They are cobblestone grey by Benjamin Moore :) The dresser was actually purchased at Home Goods last year. It’s a teal/green with a dark stain/wax appearance. So many have emailed about that dresser. I think you could probably get the color by using the Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue with a dark wax over it. Palladian Blue (by Benjamin moore) is also pretty but more of a lighter blue. Good luck :)

  36. Nancy October 20, 2013 at 10:00 pm #

Hi! Love the fall tour! I really like that blue club chair…do you know where it’s from? Thanks!

  37. Rita October 24, 2013 at 11:36 am #

Please tell me your paint colors. They are perfect!

  38. Diane November 5, 2013 at 10:31 am #

I love all of this. Love your blog. Going to make the burlap curtains for my boys bedroom.

    • Jessica Bruno November 5, 2013 at 4:03 pm #

Send pics when you finish them! Would love to see them :)

  39. Kristi November 16, 2013 at 10:11 pm #

Love your style and color scheme. I have to ask where you purchased your white sectional – it’s exactly what I’m looking for. Thanks!

    • Jessica Bruno November 17, 2013 at 9:38 am #

Thank you! The couch is from Jordan’s Furniture , Natick , Ma.

  40. Karen Hockman November 19, 2013 at 11:43 am #

Love the purple and gold color theme in the family room, good choice with the white. Also love the owl, he adds some whimsy.

  41. Grace December 6, 2013 at 10:18 pm #

Thank you for being such a generous source of design ideas…do you happen to recall the brand of the curtains you purchased for your dining room? I saw in the comments feed that they were purchased at Home Goods. Thank you so much!

  42. Jena January 19, 2014 at 11:13 pm #

What is the paint color on the walls of the dining room? I love it!

    • Jessica Bruno January 20, 2014 at 7:16 pm #

Cobblestone cape may by Benjamin Moore :)

  43. Shannon February 3, 2014 at 11:44 pm #

Would you mind telling me where you got your dining room rug? Material? Has it held up well to spills, etc.?

    • Jessica Bruno February 4, 2014 at 9:00 am #

It’s from Target! It does have sisal in it so it does fray a bit. Overall though, it has held up well. I usually just spot clean the spills with water. :) Pottery barn also makes a similar one that is an indoor/outdoor rug that is actually ideal for our dining room. It happens to be in another room right now :)

  44. Kristen June 15, 2014 at 9:41 am #

Please share the color of your familyroom walls! I love the color!!!

    • Jessica Bruno June 17, 2014 at 7:15 am #

The family room paint color is Wythe Blue by Benjamin Moore :)

  45. Jenna August 14, 2014 at 3:55 pm #

Where is your beautiful table runner from?

  46. Jane September 5, 2014 at 12:03 pm #

Jessica…I am so loving your home. it’s like a breath of fresh air! Just the perfect amount of color and pattern and personality. Your dining table looks so cute and festive for fall, I am looking out for those sweet pumpkins!

    Jane xx

  47. Taryn October 20, 2014 at 10:25 pm #

Jessica you house is absolutely breath taking. I have to ask, what color did you paint your living room walls? It’s exactly what I’m wanting to paint my kitchen.

  48. Jessi December 31, 2014 at 2:10 pm #

Hi Jessica!! I absolutely love your taste! We just built our house and are in the process of buying new furniture. I am dying to know where you got your sofa from? Thank you!

    • Jessica Bruno January 2, 2015 at 5:48 pm #

Thank you! We got the sofa from Jordan’s Furniture in Massachusetts.

  49. Jennifer March 4, 2015 at 3:16 pm #

Your home is beautiful! I have always loved your style. A tip (if you need it as I am not sure if you already found a solution or just like the look) is for the family room. To cover the knots in the wood that are bleeding through is to get BIN shellac primer (In the red can). Just paint the BIN on the knots a few times (3 or four coats per knot) and paint as usual. We had beams with exposed wood flooring and it had A LOT of knots and we used this. It has not bled through (It’s been 2 years). I hope this helps!

    • Jessica Bruno March 4, 2015 at 3:52 pm #

Thanks Jennifer! I know exactly what you mean, they drive me crazy!! ha. I love BIN and you are right, it works great. I actually repainted and BINNED those painful knots in December ;). Yay!
