It’s Fun Friday

We have fun Friday here at our house every Friday. Some Friday’s are more fun than others but for the most part, it’s the last day of the school week and ever since my son has been in preschool, we take a trip after school to Dunkin Donuts (or the ice cream stand once it opens) for a treat and then either play outside, go for rides in the golf cart at work, or sometimes we go to the toy isle at Target. Whatever it is, it’s fun!

Fun Friday for me is about trying to relax. Someone said to me the other day, I won’t name names, “why do you need to relax?” “You are a stay at home mom, every day is fun Friday for you.” He is lucky I didn’t take a swing at his head. While 100% of me agrees that being a stay at home mom is the best job on the planet, it’s also not always peaches and cream! ha.

While my son is in school, I love to take an hour and head to our local Starbucks, get my favorite coffee and catch up on some good reading. Magazines that is……

Sometimes I’ll stop and grab my mom a coffee and surprise her at work. She loves a cup of coffee in the middle of the day. Before I became a stay at home mom, I worked  full time and loved when someone surprised me with a cup of coffee during the day. I’m sure you know what I mean. How about you? Any fun Friday celebrators out there? Hope you all have a great weekend and enjoy your fun Friday!

I’ll never forget once when my son was 5 yrs old, I called him into the kitchen to pick up his toys so I could start dinner. His response was, “You just have me as a slave around here!” I calmly took him by the hand and led him to the laundry room, pointed at the pile of dirty clothes and said, “Who is responsible for washing those clothes?” He said, “You are.” Next I led him into the master bedroom, I pointed at the unmade bed with unfolded clothes on top, and said, “Who’s responsible for fixing this mess?” He said, “You are.” Next stop was the main bathroom, where I lifted the toilet seat revealing what needed to be cleaned, and said, “Who’s responsible for cleaning the toilet?” He said, “You are.” Lastly, we headed back into the kitchen where I hoisted him onto the counter next to the sink of dirty dishes from lunch. I said, “Who’s responsible for washing all these dishes?” He said, “You are.” Then I asked him,”Now, who is the slave around here – YOU or ME?” Needless to say, he wordlessly scrambled down off the counter, picked up his toys and NEVER gave me lip about having to pick up after himself again. My son is now 31 yrs old.

I love Fun Friday! We celebrate too, mostly the kids pick a place to go get snack after school on Friday. I hate to admit, most of the time it is frozen yogurt or cupcakes. Yum!

My 5 kids are all grown up into amazing adults (I was a stay at home mom also) and I still have fun fridays! Fridays are my days to do whatever I want and NOT feel guilty. That’s the key…. its my day to stay in my pj’s, go see a movie, go shopping without rushing… without guilt (I should be doing this, this, and this… doesn’t even enter my head). It’s an awesome day.

Is there really anything better than a surprise cup of coffee in the middle of the day?
